TESTING THE SFX
STABBING EFFECT -
What is the effect/how is it achieved?
For this sfx, we are shown character A stabbing character B in the neck which results in blood squirting out. This is created by doing an over the shoulder shot from character A's point of view and having character B hide a bottle of fake blood in a way which ensures it isn't in the shot (e.g. under their sleeve).
Once character A 'stabs' character B in the neck, character B will push the contents out of the bottle to make it look as though blood has squirted from his neck.
How is it done safely?
This special effect is done safely by having character A not have a knife in their hand but instead pretend that they are holding something sharp - the use of the over shoulder shot hides the 'weapon' which the character is using to stab the character.
Also, it is done safely by ensuring that the lid is off the bottle and it is angled in a certain way by character B to ensure that no contents ends up spilling in the wrong places (e.g. on people or in their eyes).
BEFORE PHOTO OF BOTTLE -
In this image, we are shown character B holding the bottle and he is ready to push the contents out of the bottle as soon as character A moves her arm towards his neck.
AFTER PHOTO WITH BLOOD -
In this photo, we are shown character B being stabbed in the neck by character A and as a result blood has squirted out from his neck. In this image, if you look closely you can still see the bottle slightly, however when looking normally, it is difficult to tell.

KNIFE THROWING SFX -
What is the effect/how is it achieved?
For this sfx, we are shown character A throwing a star weapon at character B. This is achieved by having 2 separate shots which are merged together by using the whip pan technique to help achieve the desired look. For the first shot, we are shown character A throwing the star then we are character A again throwing the star but instead, they are pretending to do this and character B already has the star in their hand, so when character A 'throws' the star, character B then acts as though they have been hit.
How is it done safely?
The sfx is done safely by having the star weapon made out of paper so that the sides can be folded. This makes it safe, because even though character A is just throwing the star and it doesn't necessarily need to be caught by character B, in case they do catch it, they wont be hurt by the weapon because it is paper.
STAR IN CHARACTER A'S HAND -
In this image, character A is about to throw the star at character B. At this point character B doesn't have the star in his hand however once the second shot has been recorded, this will be merged with this shot to look as though he received it.
STAR NOT IN CHARACTER A'S HAND -
In this image, character A is pretending to throw the star at character B. When viewing the clip, since it is a fast paced moment with the whip pan, the audience won't be able to tell that the character is in fact not throwing anything.
STAR IN CHARACTER B'S CHEST
In this image, we are shown character B receiving the star. Since the clip is fast paced, as the audience we are unable to tell that the character has actually had the star with them beforehand and instead they are just holding it against their body but using acting to make it look as though they have been hurt.
